February
18, 2009 6:00 p.m.
There were 14 members present for the February monthly meeting including the following Officers and Board members:
Randy Brownlee Glenn Dawson Paula Wiles
Tom Wilz Chester Abbott
Joe Newman Andre Champagne
John Stubbendick Guy Saenger
The following items were discussed:
1. The treasury and membership report was provided. As of this date, the club has $123,459 and there are 1,208 active members.
2. The badge system is ready to implement. Chester Abbott will begin this Sunday training others to use the system. Starting March 1, 2009 all new badges will be distributed using this new system. A discussion was held concerning the color coding of the badges. A vote was held and it was determined that individual colors will represent the following groups: members, associate members, life members, and officers.
3. The 4-H Club shooters met for the first time last Saturday. There are 15 children currently participating in this program. Another instructor has been qualified from the club so that children can participate in muzzle loaders, pistol, and air rifle. The rabbits and birds will be provided to the 4-H club at no cost to the students. If the students choose to come to the club to shoot at times other than the designated 4-H practices, the students will be responsible to pay for their birds unless donations are available to cover the costs. Chester Abbott will send out an email requesting donations for the 4-H. The 4-H Postal Match will be held April 4, 2009.
4. The event for the Young Lawyers Association was scheduled for April 4, 2009 – the same date as the 4-H match. Randy Brownlee will meet with the lawyers and try to reschedule their event for the first weekend in May.
5. The range will be closed from 1:00 pm April 24th through April 25th for the 4-H regional shoot. A sign will be placed on the gate at the beginning of April to notify members of this closing.
6. Glen Dawson had requested funds from Wal-Mart for 4-H. Apparently this grant is not going to be able to supply any funds at this time.
7. The work on the new berm has been completed. Several members have complained of the muddy conditions. Randy Brownlee will reshape the berm next week where it has eroded during the recent rain events. Randy will also check with Warren Paving to try to obtain crushed stone for the parking area near the berm.
8. The new cover for the trap field shooters has been purchased and installed.
9. A speed bump and signs will be purchased and installed by the skeet pavilion.
10. Jon Lewis gave a report on the work and planning of the construction committee (see attached). The recommendation is to construct three new skeet fields and two new trap fields. A construction committee was formed and given the task of: finalizing construction drawings, preparing specifications and bid packages. Once this is completed and approved, bids will be solicited for the construction.
11. The new shipment of birds has arrived and the cost was approximately $1,000 less than expected.
12. Randy Brownlee suggested that banners be displayed during the 4-H shoots to announce/advertise for businesses that contributed to the 4-H shooting programs. These businesses include Do-All and Lowry.
Meeting was adjourned.
